Company Profile
Beijing Forest Musical Instruments Ltd. was established in 1992 with over 20 years of exporting experience. Our company is the first foreign capital invested string instrument manufacturer in China, making professional quality handmade violins, violas, cellos and double bases. "Forest" is the only handmade violin and string instrument manufacturer in China that has received a certificate from China Laboratory. China Laboratory is the federal department responsible for product quality review. Furthermore, "Forest" has been appraised by the Beijing Technology Supervision Bureau year after year as the best handmade violin and string instrument maker. In 2003, the Bureau awarded "Forest" with honors, highlighting that "The Forest violin and String Instruments are high quality reliable products".
The Founder and Director of Forest Instruments, Mr. Maolin Song is the Father of Beijing violin makers, since 90% of them are his students. With over 40 years of experience, he is also the founding member and current Vice Chairman of the China Violin Making Committee, the Director of the China Musical Instrument Association, Sr. Technician of the China Symphony Orchestra and Chief of the China Central Opera Musical Instrument Lab. He is also a member of the American Violin Association.
Incidentally, the name "Maolin" in Chinese means "dense flourishing forest". It is evident that how "Forest" received its name as "Forest".
Mr. Song has created Forest Instruments from in depth studies of the classical masters- (Amati, Stradivari, and Guarneri). This has allowed Forest Instrument Co. to reach an unmatchable level in acoustic, artistic and aesthetic terms. Mr. Song has established an outstanding team of well qualified technical people at Forest, developing quality instruments. He created precedents for the history of China violin making industry, such as discovering the best spruce in China (Xinjiang Province) as well as the rare and outstanding 300 years old top spruce, used to be the girder of Chinese traditional buildings. Such Forest Classic violin, violas, cellos and double basses have not only received considerable compliments from a great number of violinists, cellists but also made outstanding contribution to the development of China Violin Making Industry.
Forest produces all sizes of violin instruments, including the full and small size violins, violas, cellos, and double basses. Each Forest instrument obtains unique acoustic characteristics of absolute excellence, great power and sound volume, warm and deep timbre and a clear, clean sound with immediate response.
Each Forest Instrument takes about three months in the production under a strict quality process, and then it is inspected and adjusted by Mr. Maolin Song and his senior staff. Our Instruments also receive appraisals from selected national orchestra players before being put on sale.
It is not only our 40 years of experience but also our unique material that distinguishes Forest Instruments from others. The top wood is made out of spruce growing thousands of years, and selected from the primeval forest in Northwestern China (Xinjiang Province).
The Back is made out of maples growing in the Southern part of China, (Sichuan Province). The materials used have been well seasoned over 30-300 years old. Our tone wood are some of the finest available in the world today in the construction of stringed instruments.
Forest Violin and Maolin Violin have been registered trademarks in the U.S. since 1999, and 90% of Forest instruments have been exported abroad, including the U.S., Great Britain, Canada, Germany, Austria, Hungary, Sweden, Switzerland, Japan, South Korea, South Africa and other countries and regions.
